The Hog Hauler
I'm sure many of you have seen those big hog haulers going down the highway loaded with pigs. We do things a little differently here at MacLachlan Meadows! We had a trailer custom built several years ago and then John added racks and gates to make it easier to move the pigs around and put them in different sections of the trailer if necessary. The trailer was starting to look a little worse for wear - it has hauled many pigs over the years - so we decided to give it a makeover! We had a mobile sand blasting come in a remove all the old paint. John then primed the whole trailer and gave it a new coat of shiny blue paint. The front section is closed in with a roof overhead to keep the snow, rain or sun off the pigs. John made some modifications to make it easier to offload at different locations. He put a gate where one of the ramps goes - it swings in or out or can easily be lifted right off the trailer. When we are transporting the pigs we also put some straw in there for them so they can lay down and be comfortable on their trip to the butcher. The less stress on the pigs, the better for everyone!.
