New Piglets!

We've had a busy few weeks here at MacLachlan Meadows - 5 litters born and two more on the way.

We let our sows farrow as naturally as possible - some chose to farrow outside, some chose to farrow in their pig hut and some chose to bring the outside in by building a nest of branches, twigs and grass!  Whatever they chose we find the less we interfere the better for all concerned!

I also often have people ask what we do with our runts and my reply is "Nothing."  Large hog farms will "dispose" of runts because it takes longer for them to grow.  Here at our farm, we leave that in God's hands and nine times out of ten they survive to fight and play with their litter mates.
